Following flash flooding in Westminster over recent years, Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, has been engaging with local people and industry representatives to understand the challenges homeowners in Westminster face in accessing flood insurance.
As part of Nickie's campaign to enhance flood insurance eligibility, she visited the Association of British Insurers (ABI), the UK’s world-leading insurance industry, for advice on what residents of flats in Westminster can do if they are struggling to access flood cover.
ABI represents more than 200 insurance companies in the UK and Nickie was encouraged to hear that they’ve partnered with the British Insurance Brokers' Association to create a flood insurance directory that helps home-owners whose flats don’t qualify for Flood Re support to access relationships with specialist flood brokers.
Nickie will continue to engage industry and Government to make the case for enhanced flood insurance eligibility. In the meantime, Nickie encourage's anyone in need of home insurance to cover flood risks to seek guidance from the directory.
