Two Cities MP, Nickie Aiken, was delighted to meet with Errol Douglas MBE and Toby Dicker of the Salon Employers Association to discuss the issues the hairdressing sector faces.
Among the matters discussed were the current 20% VAT rate and the impact salon owners say this is having on hiring apprentices, with many now cutting back on plans to hire more.
Our neighbourhoods are home to world-leading salons such as Errol Douglas’ on Motcomb Street, Belgravia, which Nickie visited last year, and we must continue to support our small independent businesses and ensure they have the conditions they need to thrive. Nickie has raised this matter with Nigel Huddleston MP at the Treasury, and she will make the case with colleagues to look at the VAT rate.
