MP for the Two Cities, Nickie Aiken, launched her Parliament Petition to improve air quality around Marylebone.
Marylebone is the only station left in London that uses diesel-only trains, and Nickie knows this is an issue that greatly concerns both local people and businesses with the ongoing noise and pollution in the neighbourhood.
Nickie launched a Parliament Petition to gather support and show the strength of feeling locally. Thank you to everyone who signed and made their voice heard.
Nickie was self-isolating during the presentation to Parliament, and would like to thank Felicity Buchan, MP for Kensington, for presenting Nickie's Marylebone Station Petition to Parliament on her behalf to show the strength of feeling locally around this issue.
Nickie proclaims,
"No more Class 68s!"
Speaking in the Chamber, MP for Kensington, Felicity Buchan, said,
"Thank you, Mr Deputy Speaker, I rise to present a petition on behalf of the Member for Cities of London and Westminster, the petition of residents of the constituency of Cities of London and Westminster declares that Chiltern Railways should upgrade their fleet to improve air quality.
"Further, that Marylebone is currently the only station in London which uses only diesel trains, and further that this usage greatly increases the noise and fumes in the area, much to the distress of local residents.
"The petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urge the government to ensure that the new franchise with Chiltern Rail requires that they convert their diesel trains to hybrids and end their lease on Class 68 locomotives."
