MP for the Cities of London and Westminster, Nickie Aiken, was delighted to be invited to speak at the In/Fertility in the City seminar on Thursday (7 July) morning.
Organised by Natalie Sutherland, Partner and Fertility Officer at Burgess Mee, a family law firm, and Somaya Ouazzoker, founder of Mimoza Fleur, a legal recruitment firm, we heard emotional and often harrowing experiences from the speakers, and gained an understanding of their journey through infertility, surrogacy, pregnancy loss, and fertility treatment.
Speakers included Gillian Boateng, Dr Belinda Coker, Emma Harling-Phillips, Suzanne Johnston, Emma Menzies, David Savage and Louise Woods.
Listening to their stories it is clear we still have a long way to go to destigmatise the conversation around fertility in the workplace. Those facing challenges must receive the support and care they deserve from their employers and colleagues.
Following the event, Nickie caught up with Becky Kearns from Fertility Matters At Work who educates businesses and organisations about the reality of IVF at work and Natalie Sutherland. Earlier this year, I spoke to both women in my community podcast about the need to improve IVF support in the workplace. Listen to our conversation.
Nickie has tabled legislation to improve workplace support for those going through IVF treatment. Find out more about Nickie's campaign here.
