MP for the Cities of London & Westminster, Nickie Aiken, took part in a number of events to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day and ensure we remember all the victims, including the six million Jews, those who survived the atrocity, and the subsequent genocides that followed including in Cambodia, Darfur, Bosnia, and Rwanda.
Nickie attended an incredibly moving ceremony with the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust and heard from Holocaust survivor John Hajdu MBE and survivor of the genocide in Bosnia, Smajo Beso.
Nickie also signed the Holocaust Educational Trust's Book of Commitment to honour those who were murdered during the Holocaust as well as pay tribute to the extraordinary Holocaust survivors who work tirelessly to educate young people today. Her final commemoration of the day was to light my candle and stand against hatred and hostility in the world today.
Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity for all of us across the Cities of London & Westminster to reflect on the darkest times of European history. As the Holocaust moves from living history, to history, it becomes ever more important that we take the time to remember the six million Jewish victims and also pay tribute to the survivors.
