MP for the Cities of London & Westminster, Nickie Aiken, asked the Foreign Secretary to provide details of the steps the UK is taking alongside its international partners, specifically Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States, in response to combat Chinese aggression and human rights abuses.
Nickie Aiken MP said:
Thank you, Mr Speaker.
May I thank my Right Honourable Friend for his statement, and certainly welcome the sanctions on the Chinese regime.
Could my Right Honourable Friend advise the House what steps is he and the UK Government taking with our Five Eyes partners to coordinate a response to China's appalling aggression and human rights abuses?
The Foreign Secretary responded.
I thank my Honourable Friend.
She will have noticed that we've taken action with our Canadian, US counterparts.
We also have engaged very closely with my Australian opposite number.
They have legislation that is being actively considered at the moment, and I've also had engagement with my New Zealand opposite number.
The Five Eyes is important, the E.U. is important.
Actually, what we really need to do is broaden the caucus of countries like-minded on values who will take action and have the courage to stand up.
You can watch Nickie ask her question above.
