On Friday, 1 March 2024, a Private Members' Bill was brought forward to ban Conversion Therapy.
Cities of London & Westminster MP Nickie Aiken was proud to have spoken in favour of the Bill and joined calls to ban conversion therapy.
Commenting on the Bill, Nickie said,
"It is shameful that this practice takes place in the UK. No one in this country should be made to feel ashamed for who they are. We have come so far in enhancing rights for the LGBT+ community with marriage equality in 2013, the first ever cross-government LGBT Equality Action Plan in 2011, mandatory Relationship Education in 2019, and programmes to champion the human rights of LGBT+ people around the world. But we can go further. We must ban conversion therapy."
Due to the intricacies of how a Private Members Bill works, the Bill fell due to time constraints. Nickie will continue, working with fellow Conservative MPs, to make the case with Government to bring in their own legislation as swiftly as possible.
