Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London and Westminster, is proud to have led the debate in Westminster hall on fertility treatment and employment rights.
On National Fertility Awareness Week, it's so important to raise awareness of fertility treatment, and support those going through it. Across the UK, 3.5 million people struggle to conceive naturally, with many turning to IVF.
Many people hide it from their employer for fear of being overlooked for promotion, having major projects taken off them, or being made redundant. In the debate, Nickie raised Ann's story, a Two Cities resident who came to her following her ordeal with their employer. Ann was in a career she loved, but after her employer found out about her fertility treatment, was made to choose between a career she loved, or having a child.
The debate allowed cross-party Parliamentarians to speak out and raise awareness of fertility treatment, and share stories from people across the country of their experience.
