MP for the Cities of London & Westminster paid tribute to the midwives up and down the country and those going through baby loss on Baby Loss Awareness Week.
It's Baby Loss Awareness Week, and Nickie is honoured to have spoken in the debate led by Cherilyn Mackrory MP prior to recess.
Following the debate, Nickie met with Jane Scott and Lauren Petrie, midwives at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, to hear more about their brilliant work at the Bereavement Midwives Forum, and more about their work with 4Louis, a charity that provides packs to families who have gone through the trauma of losing a baby.
To every midwife up and down the country, Nickie thanks you for all the crucial work you do.
To all those people going through bereavement of a lost baby at this moment, Nickie says "you are not alone."
Paying tribute, Nickie said,
"It's Baby Loss Awareness Week, and before recess, I was honoured to speak in my colleague, Cherilyn Mackrory's debate on that issue. And there was some very, very brave and quite emotional debate with speeches from across the, across the House.
"And I was honoured to speak in the debate and also meet Jane Scott and Lauren Petrie from St. Mary's Hospital in my constituency, who are midwives. And Jane has set up the Bereavement Midwives Forum because of her experience in this very, very sad area.
"And they've told me all about 4Louis, a brilliant charity that works with Jane and the National Midwives Bereavement Forum to support women who have lost their babies, whether through miscarriage or later on in their pregnancies and stillborn births as well.
"And they've sent me and shown me these brilliant packs that they now provide families who have gone through such trauma of losing a baby. There's a small box for those who lose their baby early on in a pregnancy and then a box for those who may give birth to stillborn babies or who have to give birth to babies who died later on in the pregnancy.
"And I mean, it's quite, quite traumatic to look at these boxes, really. But what a beautiful, beautiful way to remember a child that you've lost. And then there's also a special set for parents from the Muslim faith with a shroud that they can wrap their baby with and there's incense and prayer beads.
"So I would like to thank all the brilliant midwives who work up and down the country supporting women, giving birth and their partners. The vast majority of births are positive and healthy babies are born.
"But for those who do go through the trauma of losing a baby during pregnancy or during labour, I send you my heart felt best wishes. And particularly during a week like this, you are in my thoughts and you are not alone."
