Earlier today, the Prime Minister announced the UK governments roadmap to lifting COVID-19 restrictions.
Commenting on the roadmap, Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster said,
I've just been listening to the Prime Minister outline the government's roadmap to move out of lockdown and lift the restrictions, a very cautious approach, I accept, but one that I think is necessary.
Having spoken to Hospital Trusts in my constituency over recent days, there are still thousands of people in hospital with COVID across the capital and hundreds in ICU units, and the NHS continue to work around the clock to save lives.
I absolutely welcome the fact that our children are going back to school in a fortnight's time, but I do realise that there will still be frustration about hospitality and retail sectors and leisure and culture, but at least we do now have a clear pathway and understand when things can reopen.
And I will continue to lobby the Government for as much financial support for businesses as possible.
I know that even when we come out of lockdown, they will still need financial help because it's going to be a slow recovery in central London.
