Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, spoke out in Parliament during a debate led by Laura Farris MP on special educational needs and children's mental health services.
During the debate, Nickie explained about the current pressures faced by young people, including the 24/7 pressure of social media. Nickie also highlighted her recent conversation from a Westminster headteacher who expressed that "she has never in her 20 plus years as a teacher known such a crisis when it comes to mental health of young people and particularly teenagers, and this this is doing to their educational budget."
Watch Nickie's contribution above, including her calls to the Minister, and what she heard from one of the outstanding headteachers in the Two Cities.
During Children’s Mental Health Week, Nickie is proud of how Westminster City Council are increasing awareness amongst children and young people about the support available to them with the wellbeing key ring. The key ring will enable young people to scan a QR code to be taken to a dedicated webpage which will show the rage of support available, and the many difference ways it can be accessed, whether on the phone, in person or live chat.
