The much-needed Leasehold and Freehold Reform Bill has now been published.
Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster is clear that we need wholesale reform as the current leasehold system is unfit for purpose. For years she has been making the case behind the scenes with Ministers to bring forward legislation.
Nickie has also set up a Two Cities Leasehold Working Group to hear from a variety of local people about the leasehold issues and challenges they face and how we can shape the legislation to reflect their views and concerns.
Nickie met again with her working group, this time joined by Housing Minister Lee Rowley MP, who will be taking leasehold reform through the House of Commons. It was an excellent discussion where they made the case on the right to manage, marriage value, and the relationship between the leaseholder and freeholder, to name but a small part of the discussion. It's clear the Minister was keen to listen and Nickie looks forward to speaking in the upcoming debate on this critical legislation, due to take place on 11 December.
