Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, has today met with Policing Minister Kit Malthouse MP alongside fellow MP Felicity Buchan to discuss the issue of noise from police helicopters policing protests.
Nickie has been contacted by a number of local people from across the Two Cities who have been affected by the issue. In the meeting Nickie raised their concerns directly with the Minister.
Unfortunately Kit informed Nickie that there was very little that could be done in the short term that would permanently resolve the problem. He did however accept that the police could be doing more to communicate with local people about when and why helicopters were being deployed.
Nickie, Kit and Felicity also discussed the work that the Metropolitan Police is doing looking at how drones could be used by the police. This may be a possible the solution longer term once drone technology has sufficiently advanced. Kit has asked the Home Office to keep both Nickie and Felicity updated on the progress of this work.
