MP for the Two Cities, Nickie Aiken, met with the Health Secretary, Sajid Javid MP, to discuss her specific healthcare campaigns including increasing the number of diseases babies are screened for, and creating better understanding and awareness of the menopause.
Nickie is working with ArchAngel MLD Trust to increase the number of diseases babies are tested for. In the U.K. babies are only tested for 9 diseases lagging behind countries such as Poland, Hungary, Portugal, Italy and America. Nickie discussed with the Health Secretary the importance of bringing our screening programme in line with these countries as soon as possible.
Nickie also took the opportunity during Menopause Awareness Month to raise the importance of improving menopause information, support & advice available, not just for women but also men. Nickie believes it is vital that men can better understand what their partners, mums, sisters, friends, colleagues are going through and help them. As a peri menopausal and menopausal woman, Nickie knows how difficult this time can be. Women should not suffer in silence, and everyone can embrace this change of life.
