Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, Nickie Aiken, joined the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, on a visit to The Passage, a fantastic charity providing services that prevent and end homelessness.
The Prime Minister and Nickie helped serve breakfast to homeless clients of the charity who provide both breakfast and lunch as part of their day centre service.
They met the brilliant chef, Nour, and volunteers as well as the employment and benefits teams and a number of their service users.
The Prime Minister’s visit came on the day that the Government announced that tens of thousands of vulnerable people will be protected from homelessness by a £654 million funding package.
All councils in England will receive their share of funding from the Homelessness Prevention Grant to provide vital support to those who need it the most in their local areas over the next 2 years. The City of London will receive £272,530 and Westminster will benefit from £13,916,104 of funding.
Nickie has worked with The Passage’s chief executive, Mick Clarke, and Jenny Travasco, Director of Services for many years. They and the whole team are outstanding people who always go the extra mile for rough sleepers and the homeless living in temporary accommodation.
The announcement builds on the £366 million (which includes the £50 million top-up from 04 December 2022) of Homelessness Prevention Grant funding provided to local authorities in 2022/23.
