Two Cities MP, Nickie Aiken, was delighted to be invited to visit the new Ukrainian Welcome Centre, based at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral on Binney Street.
Nickie was inspired to meet Andriy Marchenko, the Project Manager and catch up with Inna Prystaiko, wife of the Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK. Nickie also heard from Iryna Terlecky, from the Association of Ukrainians in UK.
The welcome centre is a one stop shop for information and advice and it was great to see the volunteers ensuring everyone had the information they needed and their questions answered. The volunteers are also there to listen to anyone and hear their stories of the devastating impact of war and Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
If you are welcoming a family member or sponsoring a Ukrainian in your home, Nickie highly encourages you to get in touch with them. As more Ukrainians seek refuge in the UK, the community will grow larger and this will ensure connections are kept.
On her visit, Nickie heard more about the centre's plans for the future and how they will be moving into a permanent room at the Cathedral. Currently, they're still setting up and aren't able to open everyday, so do check their website before turning up. And if you are able to help with English lessons, please let them know. They are keen to begin lessons to support our Ukrainian community!
