COVID-19 Scams

COVID-19 has unfortunately been seen by some criminals as an opportunity.

Many of us are feeling more vulnerable than we normally would. Criminals are playing on this for their own financial gain.

People are now beginning to report a number of different scams related to Coronavirus to the police. Some of them are incredibly convincing and sophisticated. It’s really important to know both what to look out for and how to protect yourself from becoming a victim.

The Financial Conduct Authority, who regulate financial services and markets in the UK, have produced a great short article giving people some pointers on both. You can read it here.

Fraudsters are also turning their criminal minds to selling fake products such as PPE and face masks as well as fake tests. Please do be careful when buying online in particular. If something seems to good to be true, it probably is.
