Friday marked Holocaust Memorial Day, the anniversary of the liberation of the former Nazi concentration and death camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau, in 1945.
Across the UK – and the world – people came together to remember the horrors of the past.
Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, took part in a number of events to commemorate the day and ensure we remember all the victims, including the six million Jews, those who survived the atrocity, and the subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
Nickie signed the Holocaust Educational Trust Book of Commitment to honour those who were murdered during the Holocaust as well as pay tribute to the extraordinary survivors who work tirelessly to educate young people today.
During her time at the Council of Europe, she also visited and paid respects at the Council’s Holocaust Memorial.
Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity for all of us across the Two Cities to reflect on the darkest times of European history.
As the Holocaust moves from living history, to history, it becomes ever more important that we take the time to remember victims and pay tribute to the survivors.
