As well as concerns within our Jewish community, Nickie Aiken MP knows our Muslim community is also very worried about the rise in Islamophobia since the conflict in the Middle East began.
Nickie visited London Central Mosque in Regents Park and met Dr Ahmad Al-Dubayan, Director General of the Islamic Cultural Centre and Mosque, along with Lancaster Gate councillor, Laila Cunningham, and community champion Mohamed Ali. They discussed the fears among the local Muslim community, the very worrying situation in Gaza and Israel and the plight of civilians on both sides. The need for more humanitarian aid into Gaza and for the West and Middle East to work together to broker a peace deal to bring the conflict to an end.
Later in the week, Nickie also met with Rabbi Kamila at Westminster Synagogue alongside Knightsbridge & Belgravia Councillor Rachael Robathan to hear their concerns and provide the reassurance our Jewish community needs at this challenging time.
Incidents of antisemitism and islamophobia have risen drastically in the wake of Hamas’ terror attacks. It’s on all of us to do all we can to ensure the Two Cities remains the tolerant and cohesive place we know it to be.
