Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, Nickie Aiken has spoken today on Radio 4’s PM about how Covid-19 is likely to accelerate change on our high streets.
Nickie suggested that businesses with high street premises will continue to increasingly focus on providing shoppers with an experience over selling products, with Covid-19 accelerating this change as businesses work hard to generate footfall.
She also encouraged the empowerment of both local authorities and businesses, urging them to be allowed to make the decisions required to keep our high streets alive.
Nickie also raised concerns about areas like the West End, with a low residential footfall, indicating how this could change.
