On the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster Nickie Aiken has paid the following tribute to women working in the STEM industries.
On International Day for Women and Girls in Science, I want to pay particular tribute to the outstanding women scientists who are battling the COVID-19 virus at this moment.
And we have seen the outstanding achievement that many women have made with finding vaccines against COVID-19, particularly Professor Sarah Gilbert of Oxford University.
Over a million women work in STEM industries in the United Kingdom, but only 27% of our scientists are women.
So, we must improve on that and encourage more girls to take science subjects and go to university and then continue careers in science.
But to all those who are already in the STEM industries, thank you for everything you do. We are so grateful.
