This morning, Cities of London & Westminster MP Nickie Aiken visited the Abbey Centre on Great Smith Street.
The centre is the home of the Abbey Community Association. Established in 1948 the Association was founded to support the communities of south Westminster to improve their quality of life. It’s been based at the centre for over 25 years.
Commenting on her visit, Nickie said,
I've just been to the Abbey Centre who are holding an old people's drop-in from 12 noon until 3 pm.
Older people from all over the local area coming together with a packed lunch, cup of tea, and I'm making Easter garlands.
So lovely to see so many out and about.
For some, it was the first time they'd been out for a year. Today is the first day of freedom in some aspects.
We can now meet up to six people, two households, outside.
But it's still important that we do say safe, that we do adhere to social distancing and wear masks.
And sadly, we can't hug each other yet, but that time will come.
So, I'm so pleased to have been at the Abbey Centre.
And I'm so pleased that we are now starting to see restrictions begin to lift.
