Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster visited the Caxton Youth Organisation this week for her ninth walk in the 10for10 Challenge. Caxton Youth Organisation is Westminster’s only Youth Club exclusively for young people with learning difficulties, providing facilities for recreation and informal education.
Nickie hopes that raising Caxton’s profile will also shine a light on the amazing work families with children with learning disabilities and autism undertake for their loved ones.
Before heading out on her ninth 10for10 walk with members of the group, Nickie visited Caxton to see first-hand the incredible work it undertakes.
You can back Nickie's campaign by donating to Caxton Youth Organisation online.
Visiting Caxton, Nickie explained
I'm here at Caxton Youth Organisation tonight and all the guys are having a great time playing football.
Caxton is a brilliant youth organisation for young people with learning difficulties and autism. "And they put on events like this they play football, they can do art, they can work with specialists on employability to get the young people job-ready.
They are outstanding.
They also do residential weeks and weekends to give their families respite and get the young people out of London.
That is why I am doing my 10for10 Challenge walking 10x 10,000 steps for Caxton to raise really important funds for them.
I'm here tonight, We're going to do a walk, will be my, my ninth walk and I look forward to them joining me after they've finished their match.
Nickie also took part in an interview with Sam, Caxton’s Communications Officer. Watch what they said above or read the transcript below.
So I'm at Caxton and I've got the wonderful Sam Cook who does all the communications for Caxton. Don't you?
Yes.
Yeah, so Sam is going to ask me a few questions about why I'm working with Caxton.
So Sam, what's your first question?
Why am you working to raising money for Caxton?
Because I think this is a really, really brilliant club. You love it, don't you?
Yeah, yeah I like it
And so I think that it's really important to raise more money so you can do more things. And what would you like to do? What's the things you like doing here most?
I like doing things like playing football
Playing football, yeah, I saw you earlier, you're brilliant.
Any other questions you've got for me?
How can we get involved with the campaign?
Well, I'm doing 10x 10,000 step walks and I'm on number nine today.
So it'd be great if for you and your friends here tonight, come and have a walk with me.
Would you like to do that?
Great.
Well, we're going to go off and do a walk and if you want to donate to Caxton and ensure that Sam and all his friends get to do more brilliant stuff please do click on www.nickie.news/Caxton
