MP for the Cities of London & Westminster, Nickie Aiken, welcomes the Government's Online Safety Bill which began its journey through Parliament.
Nickie is delighted that the Government took on her calls to include fraudulent advertising in the Bill. If passed, social media companies will be responsible and held to account to ensure they take a proactive approach to keeping their online platforms safe.
Nickie commented,
"The Government has just published its Online Safety Bill. I've got a copy here. As you can see, it's very in-depth. I will be spending a lot of time going through it in great detail.
"I have been campaigning for a while now to persuade the Government to include fraudulent advertising in this Bill. And I'm absolutely delighted that Chapter five includes duties about fraudulent advertising.
"We know how harmful fraud can be online. And I am delighted that the Government is taking online safety extremely seriously. And this Bill, if passed, will hold social media companies responsible and to be more proactive to ensure that their online platforms are safe to use.
"So I'm absolutely delighted and I'm going to be reading in-depth."
